Your Heart Chakra

A balanced energy center, or chakra, at your heart opens you to Universal love and compassion

Your Energy Centers

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning disc or wheel. It is believed to have originated in India and is first referenced in ancient Vedic texts linked to both yoga and Ayurveda. Your Chakras are spinning wheels of energy, and the Chakra system is the energy system of your body, responsible for your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. They can be found in your spiritual body, sharing space and aligning with your physical body.

Balanced energy centers ensure that you are running at peak possible performance. Imbalances can manifest in your physical and emotional body in predictable ways.

Correspondence and Function

Each energy center corresponds with an element that relates to its function. The energy center at your heart corresponds with the element of air and relates to compassion. Compassion is the ability to connect with the experience of others and express Universal love.

Your lungs and heart work together. Your lungs process oxygen from the air that you breathe and send it to the blood which moves it out into your body through the action of your heart. Carbon dioxide is collected and returned. It is sent to your lungs for release.

Your energetic heart supports you in a similar way. When it is balanced, your heart receives input, spreading the beneficial throughout your energy system allowing you to share it with others while what is not, or no longer, beneficial is filtered out to be released.

Glandular Alignment

Your 7 main energy centers exist in your spiritual body and are aligned with the endocrine centers in your physical body.

The energy center at your heart aligns with your thymus gland. This gland supports your immune system through the development of white blood cells sent from your bone marrow. A strong immune system prevents unhealthy input to infiltrate your system.

A strong and balanced heart chakra also prevents, makes you immune to, unhealthy input from pollute your energy system.

Physical Areas Influenced

The energy center at your heart influences the areas surrounding your physical heart, also those that support and are supported by a compassionate attitude. First and foremost, your energetic and physical hearts work in tandem.

Your upper back, chest, breasts, lungs, shoulders, arms, and hands connect with the energy at your heart center. Your upper thoracic vertebrae, specifically T1 through T5, and the nerves in and from this area are influenced by the balance at your heart.

It is important to note that these are not clearly defined areas and that each energy center blends with other energy centers, both large and small.

Energy centers effect and are effected by physical function. Your heart is influenced by your physical heart and lungs. Your thymus is also influenced by the energy center at your base or root, where your white blood cells originate, which governs security, stability, and safety.

Signs of Balance

A person with a balanced energy center at their heart would be compassionate, trusting, and empathetic.

A healthy upper back and flexibility in the arms and hands can signal a balanced energy center at the heart, as well as a healthy heart and lungs.

A balanced heart chakra also supports a balanced immune system.

Signs of Imbalance:

Physical signs of an energetic heart imbalance include:

  • asthma
  • autoimmune issues
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • heart disease
  • weak immune system

Emotional signs of an energetic heart imbalance include:

  • apathy
  • lack of emotional boundaries
  • fragile emotions
  • hurtful
  • distrusting

Bringing Balance

Your energy system is influenced by exposure to the world around you from other living beings to a variety of other things including your food, drink, and even your thoughts. This exposure has a direct effect on how each individual Chakra functions. Because it is a system, the function of each energy center has an impact on the whole system.

Information about tools for bringing and maintaining balance is not medical advice, nor should it be used in place of seeing a medical professional if and when you experience issues. Holistic tools should be considered a complement to any allopathic treatment that you may need.

Also, not everyone reacts in the same way to natural ingredients and allergies are common. Do not use anything that you have reacted to in the past, or if you suspect a sensitivity exists. Contact a medical professional with personal safety questions.

There are many tools that can support your balanced energy system. Some of the tools that can help include:

  • color
  • gemstones, crystals, and minerals
  • scent
  • fuel or food
  • herbs

Color

Color is controversial regarding balancing energy centers. I have personally found that it influences my mood and balance. There is also a great deal of information available on the psychology of color. Even if it is just a placebo effect, the purpose of this information is not to diagnose or prescribe. If using color to bring balance speaks to you, do it. If not, maybe another tool will resonate.

The energy center at your heart is influenced by the color green.

Green is considered calming. Use green in areas of your home where you want to invite calm like your bedroom or den. Wear green to calm yourself, or those around you. Green can also give the feeling of receiving care of compassion.

Place light green in your line of sight to lift your heart and dark green to feel comforted.

Gemstone, Crystals, and Minerals

Gemstones, crystals, and minerals support balanced energy centers through a process called entrainment. Both energy centers and crystals vibrate at specific frequencies. If you have an unbalanced energy center, bring a stone that vibrates at a frequency near or equal to it near your energy center.  The vibration of the stone will entrain the energy of the Chakra, returning it to balance.

Rose Quartz is one of the stones most aligned with the energy center at your heart. This is due to the frequency at which it vibrates.

Rose Quartz soothes and comforts the heart. It also encourages a compassionate attitude toward self and others.

Wear Rose Quartz as a pendant above the level of your heart, on your hands, or on your arms. Hold Rose Quartz in your left hand to receive or direct compassion inward, in your right hand to send it outward, or in both hands to complete a circuit of supportive compassion and love.

Scent

Scent can trigger memories, mentally transport you through time and space, and bring balance to your energy centers.

The energy center at your heart center balances upper and lower energies. Geranium also brings balance. In Chinese medicine, Geranium nourishes and invigorates the blood. It is also used to support skin in need of balance. The fragrance is like that of roses and exposure creates a sense of harmony.

Fuel or Food

Each energy center responds to a specific fuel. This ranges from fasting to indulging in what we consider comfort food.

Vegetables are considered heart healthy foods. They contain antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber which can reduce blood pressure and unhealthy cholesterol levels while improving the function of blood vessels.

Supporting healthy physical heart function is also supportive of energetic heart function.

Herbs

Herbs are popular not only as complementary wellness practice but in allopathic medicine as well.  They are flexible in usage and many herbs have a wide range of benefits.

Rose is astringent, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. It also has antidepressant properties. The fruit of the plant, the hips, support healthy capillaries and veins.

Rose Hips:

  • supply vitamin C
  • provide bio-flavinoids
  • are astringent

Rose Petals:

  • reduce stress
  • heal heartache

Rose hips and petals can be steeped in a tea, infused in honey, and used in salads. Obtain pesticide free roses if you plan to ingest them.
